Free Solar Panels in Schools

Schools in 11 counties will be eligible to apply for funding for solar panels under the first phase of a new school solar panel scheme.

The counties are: Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Limerick, Offaly, Waterford, Wicklow, and the Dublin City Council area.

Key Dates for this program:

  • 30th November 2023 – Applications invited from over 1,600 schools
  • 1st February 2024 – Deadline for schools to register for the programme
  • 15th March 2024 – Deadline for schools to submit quotes to the Department
  • 30th May 2024 – Target date for completion of phase 1 PV installations

The funding will help schools reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions with the installation of up to 16 roof-mounted solar panels per school, which equates to six kilowatts worth of power.

The Government have announced FULL FUNDING for a Solar PV system installation for your school.

  • A 6kW Solar PV system
  • Full connection to the grid
  • Monitoring and display screens
  • All schools must register and receive confirmation of eligibility before seeking quotations.

The intention is to include a further eight counties in phase two in Q2 2024 and the remaining eight counties in Q4 2024. It is intended that all eligible schools across the country will have the opportunity to apply to the scheme by end 2024. (Gov.ie)
